Jaylen Brown has signed a historic contract extension with the Boston Celtics, worth $304 million over 5 years.
According to a report by The Athletic's journalist Shams Charania, multiple sources have confirmed that Jaylen Brown and the Celtics reached an agreement on this extension ahead of time. As per the report, he will earn $304 million over the next five years, making it the highest-paying contract in NBA history.
Subsequent reports reveal that Brown's contract will start with a salary of $52.37 million and increase annually until the 2028-29 season when it reaches $69.13 million.
The contract does not include a player option, and all the amounts are fully guaranteed. Additionally, there are no incentive bonuses in the contract, and it includes a no-trade clause, meaning Brown cannot be traded during the 2023-24 season after signing the contract.
This record-breaking contract surpasses the previous highest salary record in the league's history, previously held by Nikola Jokic, who signed a $276 million contract during the previous offseason.
Looking back at his performance during the 2022-23 regular season, Brown averaged 35.9 minutes per game, contributing 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals.
